The city lists the court information window as open Monday and Wednesday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, and Tuesday, 8:30 am to 7:00 pm.

Court details come from the court's or municipality's official website and can change. Check your notice and call the court before you go. We are a private law firm, not the court.

How the Jersey City Municipal Court handles hearings, payments and requests

  • Court sessions are held both in person and virtually. The city posts a Virtual Court Assistance Guide and Zoom details for anyone whose notice says the hearing is virtual.
  • Adjournment requests are not automatic. They must be made in writing or in person at least three working days before the court date, and the original date stands until you get an email confirming the new one.
  • If a ticket is not eligible for online review, you can ask for a court date with the city's online Plea of Not Guilty form, at the information window, or through the call center at 201-209-6700 (Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm).
  • For missed parking or moving violation dates, the city mails a new notice and raises the fine by at least $10 each time until it is paid or the license is suspended.

What to know about the Jersey City Municipal Court

  • The city says adjournment requests go by email to Adjourn@jcnj.org, and that your court date has not changed until you get a confirmation that a judge granted the request.
  • The city's plea-by-mail form can't be used for charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, so a DWI requires a court appearance.
  • PATH trains run between Journal Square and Newark Penn Station, next to our office.
